When you join our membership you are automatically a member of: FOCA (Federation of Cottage Associations) WRAFT (Waterfront Ratepayers After Fair Taxation) Magnetawan River Watershed Association Algonquin Eco-Watch This new Sand Lake property owners association was originally known as the Proudfoot Township Property Owners’ Association, incorporated in 1958.Its new name and logo identifies the geographic area and property owners in which and whom we have a special interest. The association is active year round, and acts as your eyes and ears when you are not at the Lake. One of the activities it undertakes is the monitoring of water quality on Sand Lake and Rock Lake. Another is pressing the Town of Kearney staff and Council to administer the regulations in the Official Plan and zoning by-laws. When these instruments are being reconsidered by the Council for change and amendments, this group takes an active role in coordinating the wishes of our members. Your association also has a history of informing its membership of candidate information during the Kearney Municipal Election. Many who have been involved with the association have gone on to further serve the community as Mayor or Councillors. The association is known as a community builder, and sponsors 3 major social events in the Sand Lake Area. The Sand Lake Regatta The Sand Lake Sailboat Race The Turkey Shoot The association owns property in the Sand Lake Area. Emerald Island – parkland open for all to use and enjoy The Schoolhouse – located on hwy. 518 – we are retaining this property and building for its historic significance. Lot on Buckley’s Beach – purchased originally to hold our social functions. Your Board of Directors and Board Advisors have a long history with Sand Lake itself and with the staff and Council of the Town of Kearney. We have families in our membership on the board of directors that have had property on Sand Lake for a combined 450 years.
